What's with those license plates?

There aren't any?

They both make me chub, honestly.

So then what's with that black grid then? Why the funky pattern?
![]() 10/13/2013 at 14:42 |

Those are just black plastic frames you can put your plates in. The weird pattern comes from those frames being made to fit any concieveable montage point pattern and what I assume is an effort to save material.

That's colloquially known as a "license plate frame"

I see. We don't get anything that alien looking here.

Yeah, not every day you see one of them in the wild without their companion, the license plate.

Good ol' overly complicated Euro design.

I'm kind of partial to this!

So, one type is people who like revving German sport sedans in a driveway.
What's the other type?

Right after I bought my C63 some friends of mine picked me up to go out, before we left I opened up the garage and revved the engine a few time (inside of a little 1 car garage). It was damn near deafening! I feel like this video doesn't show you just how violent that exhaust can sound, especially when lifting.

Fixed that for ya :P

Well, that settles which type of person you are.

Holy shit, that is just so stupid and complicated in my opinion.

Are you happy with your transmission? I've always been bummed out that the C63 didn't come with an MT or DCT.

Meh, I guess. A manual would really bring the car to life much more. The shifts aren't lightning fast (sometimes annoyed by the time it takes in sport or manual mode) but it does a good enough job of knowing what I want to do.

Seems like it's good enough for commuting. Hopefully the transmission will last a long time before needing to be rebuilt if you hold the car for a while. It's crazy how much power it needs to deal with!

I plan on keeping the car for a long time. I was considering selling it since it is only a weekend car and replacing it and my DD (beater Explorer with busted suspension) for a WRX STi, but my fiance did not like that idea. I tried explaining we would save money, but she begged me to keep it. It's not that I want to sell it, just that I know it would be the more prudent decision and the infrequency I drive it makes me sometimes question if it is worth it (but then I drive it and remember it is).

Have you considered the CLA45 AMG? It's like a fancy German STi. Good gas mileage, AWD and DCT. Maybe your fiance would approve. It would be a much cheaper DD if you don't live close to work.

Thought about it, but I work in a chemical plant, so anything luxury is pretty much out of the question as a daily driver (other than older ones of course). We have tons of over spray in the air that will coat every surface of your car.

Oh, I see. That makes sense not to risk parking a new car at work. One cool used car option is a Mercedes SLC. There is not much of a market for them so you can pick them up pretty cheap. Would be a fun classic Merc to pair up with the C63. And if you find a clean one it will be very reliable.

I have had my eye on a 300D that a shop near my fiance's has. I drive 90-120 miles round trip per day to work (depending if I am staying at home or at her place). The Explorer is doing an amazingly good job, 170k miles on the OHV 4L V6, still running strong. The suspension on the other hand has all but crumbled.

The 300D would be an awesome choice for that commute. Those cars last forever.
You gotta fix that suspension if you keep driving the Explorer! Doesn't sound safe to have a tall vehicle with a busted suspension. That's great the engine is still going strong.
